Tenor Marcel d’Entremont is recognized throughout Canada for his powerful voice and sincere stage presence. He has been broadcast nationally by CBC Radio and performed the role of Rodolfo in a nationwide tour of La bohème with Against the Grain Theatre which became the first livestream of a professional opera in Canada and was featured on CBC Gem.
Marcel’s highlights as a soloist include Elijah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, A Little Night Music at Koerner Hall, Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra, and Messiah with Orchestre classique de Montréal. He has performed with the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Saskatoon Opera, Tapestry Opera, Opera Nova Scotia, and Opéra du Rouen, which included performances at the Château de Versailles, and has been a touring artist with Debut Atlantic and Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. Marcel was also a resident artist at the National Arts Center of Canada, Toronto Summer Music, the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, and the Vancouver Opera. He was previously an Equilibrium Young Artist, having been chosen personally by soprano Barbara Hannigan for performances and professional development.
Marcel has given voice masterclasses at Dalhousie University and Mount Allison University and has adjudicated both the voice and musical theatre categories at the National Music Festival of Canada, where he is a former winner and recipient of the Grant Award. He has also won the Atlantic Young Artist Competition, the St. Andrews Aria Competition, and the Wirth Vocal Prize, the most significant musical award offered by a Canadian university. Marcel has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and Nova Scotia Talent Trust. Marcel recently curated and co-produced “A World Transformed” which tells the tragic story of Matthew Shepard and has been presented in a staged and choreographed production by Echo Chamber in Toronto, and at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Marcel was previously named one of the 30 Top Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30 by CBC Music.
