Jean-Michel Malouf is the Music Director of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (Québec) since 2016. A trained trombonist, he began his conducting studies in 2005 with Raffi Armenian. His remarkable precision, sensitivity and natural leadership quickly earned him the right to participate in numerous projects. In 2006, he obtained the position of artistic director of the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Joliette where he remained until 2011.

From June 2012 to December 2014, he was conductor-in-residence at the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra. He participated in the development of the artistic seasons, conducted the ensemble on numerous occasions and performed as soloist and conductor in a series of concerts in December 2013. In 2014, he was the musical director of a production featuring renowned soprano Sumi Jo in concerts at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and at the Maison symphonique de Montréal. He is still a frequent guest conductor of this ensemble.

From 2015 to 2017, Jean-Michel Malouf was conductor-in-residence of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, he received the Jean-Marie-Beaudet Award, given by the Canada Council for the Arts to a promising young Canadian conductor in recognition of his or her excellence. In recent years, he has been invited to conduct the Orchestre Métropolitain, Les Violons du Roy, Opéra national de Lorraine, Opéra de Québec, Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, London Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax. He also conducted Diane Dufresne's last concert on French soil at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, as well as a number of concerts with her in Quebec, including at the Palais Montcalm and during the Festival Classica.
